2008 Scotland Tour

The 2008 FCWT Team representing the United States in the Boys Scottish National Stroke Play Championship was Ryan Barry, Trevor Cone, Andrew Larkin, Evan Markley, Patrick Mullaney, Brian Nichols, Harry Russell, Dylan Smith, Alex Weiss,  Tyler Weworski, and FCWT chaperon Dave Melton.

The team arrived in Edinburgh and went straight to Gullane # 1 for a warm up round and were greeted with 40 mph Scottish winds, welcome to Scotland!! They spent the next two days in North Berwick where they played a friendly match with a team of juniors from North Berwick Golf Course, where we prevailed. The match did not start until 6:15 pm and finished shortly before 10:30 pm.  The team moved on to famous St. Andrews for the next three days where the team had the opportunity to play another friendly match with the Boys of Fife at Thornton Golf Club. The next few days included rounds at the St.Andrews Jubilee Course, the famed Old Course ( the boys got a taste of Scottish golf as it rained and the wind blew for about 9 holes) and finished off our stay by playing at last years site of The Open, the beautiful and difficult Carnoustie. The team got an opportunity to walk the streets of St. Andrews, do some shopping and taste the local cuisine. A few even sampled the haggis and black pudding. We then moved on to the site of the Boys Scottish National Championship in the town of Blairgowrie. The championship was a 72 hole event with 144 players with a 36 hole cut to the top 40 players. After playing a very difficult Blairgowrie Golf Course, we had two boys make the cut and the others, although disappointed, represented FCWT very well. The final round was a grueling 36 holes. Tyler Weworski  from San Diego finished 11Th and played exceptionally well. Tyler is on his way to play at Texas Tech next year. Fifteen year old  Evan Markley from Scottsdale, finished 16Th but finished 1st in the boys 16 and under division. Evan showed tremendous promise and we expect great things from him in the future. The team, to a man,  said it was a tremendous once in a lifetime opportunity and they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
