More Moorhead

At the end of Saturday's round fourth season FCWT player Kevin DeHuff of Coto de Caza, CA (2011) led all scores in the Boys 16-18 division of the La Costa Open on Sunday when he carded a one over par.  DeHuff won this event last year at the 13-15 level.  He knew he would have his work cut out for him on Sunday with Jonah Texeira of Los Angeles, CA (2014) only one stroke back, but he may not have counted on Mike Moorhead of Newport Beach, CA (2012) who began the day tied for 7th at +5.  Moorhead carded a final round of 73 to put him tied at 150 with

Ben Heisey, a long-time FCWT player who used to play out of NC.  Ben now makes his home in Orange, CA (2011) and made his mark on West Coast golf with a round of 72 on Sunday.  While the playoff didn't turn out as he would have liked when Moorhead sank a 40 footer for birdie on the playoff hole, Ben had 6 birdies of his own on Sunday that earned him 2nd place.  Even so, the Low Round honors went to

Tye Gabriel of Lake Oswego, OR (2010) for his round of two under par 70, that also earned him 3rd place at 151.  Max Carter of Lake Oswego, OR (2012) finished in 4th place at 152 followed by

Ryan Donahue of Paradise Valley, AZ (2010), who began the day tied for 2nd.  Andrew Lister of Haymarket, VA (2011) finished at 154 as did Nick Matsushima of Honolulu, HI (2010) and first round leader Kevin DeHuff.  Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, CA (2012) and Matt Pinizzotto of Salinas, CA (2011) finished tied for 9th at 155, just 5 strokes off the pace.  It was the first FCWT win for the 16 year old Moorhead who is in his 3rd season on the FCWT.

Gunn-ing for the win

In the Boys 13-15 division, David Magee of Rancho Santa Fe, CA (2013) and Andrew Gunn of Tucson, AZ (2012) began the final round of the La Costa Open co-leading at 3 over par.  Magee was playing his first FCWT event; Gunn finished 3rd at Tucson and then won at Dove Mountain.  On Sunday, Andrew got out to the early lead with a birdie on # 12, only to see opportunity slipping away on the front nine when he made back to back bogeys on 6 and 7.  As one would depress the accelerator on a sports car, Andrew quickly got back on track on 8 and 9 to finish par-par, one stroke better than Magee and earn his second win of the season.  In addition to the title, his round of 74 also earned him Low Round honors.

Magee's second place finish shows he is a newcomer to contend with.  David finished 3 strokes ahead of another FCWT newcomer

Fourteen year old KK Limbhasut of THAILAND (2014). Gunn led the field in birdies with 5 on the weekend, while Tyler Moore of Escondido, CA (2015) led in pars with 23 and finished in 4th place, 7 strokes back of the lead.  Stuart Macdonald's (Vancouver, BC, CANADA, 2012) round of 75 moved him up to 5th place at 157.

Gunn and Magee co-led the field in birdies with 3.  Right behind them are two FCWT veterans:  Ben Doyle of San Diego, CA (2014) and Tyler Moore of Escondido, CA (2015).  Doyle won earlier this season at Mission Hills and Moore won at PGA West the beginning of January, so neither can be counted out on Sunday.  Moore led the field in pars with 14 on Saturday.  Fourteen year old KK Limbhasut of THAILAND (2014) is playing in his first FCWT event and will start in 5th place, 2 strokes back.  Max Alcorn of Poway, CA (2013) will start in 6th at 79, with Sang Kang of Seoul, KOREA (2014) right behind him at 80, 5 strokes off the pace.

David Snyder of McAllen, TX (2016) led wire-to-wire in a tight competition in the Boys 11-13 division.  Snyder posted 26 pars over the weekend and pulled ahead of 2nd place,

Sibo Yan of San Diego, CA (2015), by 5 strokes. This was Snyder's 3rd win of the season.  Twelve year old Yan, who won the Mission Hills event in December, finished in 2nd place.

Thirteen year old Shrish Dwivedi of Redwood City, CA (2015), who won at the TPC Las Vegas event, finished in 3rd place.  Benjamin Albin of Santa Fe, NM (2015), who led this division in birdies with 5, finished 4th followed by Jeffrey Cheung of Palos Verdes Estates, CA (2014).

Fourteen year old Jordan Ferreira of University Place, WA (2013) took home the girls division title (more)

Welcome to Golf in Florida

This is an actual sign from the Mission Inn event. The Mission Inn golf course is home to 17 gators, including a VERY large one on # 17.  With as cold as it is in Florida right now, one would think they would leave, but apparently not.  Animal control has been called to relocate this particular one.

The Florida freeze continued for Round Two.  Players and staff bundled up to keep warm in the Sunshine State.  The sun did finally make its appearance around noon after a cold and windy morning.

Canadian Ben Murray (2010) warmed up his game with a second round score of 74 that gave him his first FCWT title of the season by edging out

Jose Lopez of Verzcruz, MEXICO (2010) by one stroke.  Murray , who co-led the tournament in birdies with 6, began the day tied for 5th after an opening round of 77.   Lopez , who co-led in pars with 22, began the day tied for 3rd then carded a second consecutive round of 76 to finish at 152.

Peter Valasek of Orlando, FL (2011) earned the Low Round honors for his Sunday round of 73 and finished tied for 3rd with Kyle Sayani of ON, CANADA (2010) who began the day in 10th place.  Zi Ting Wang of Orlando, FL (2010) came on strong to finish in 5th, just 4 strokes back of  Murray.

Overnight co-leader Evan LIttlefield of Thunder Bay, ON, CANADA (2010) finished tied for 6th place with Chenxiao Duan of Bradenton (2010) and Jack Wang of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL (2011), who also co-led in pars with 22.

In the Boys 13-15 division,

Santiago Lopez of Veracruz, MEXICO (2014) led wire-to-wire and earned his first FCWT win.  The fourteen year old Lopez , who led this division in pars with 23, was paired with

Philippe Schweizer of Switzerland (2012), who won last weekend at Black Diamond and  Ryan Jahn of Jupiter, FL (2013) who finished 2nd at Sawgrass.

On Sunday, Lopez carded a 74 while the other two players fell back.  Philippe did finish tied for 2nd with

Gustavo Romero of MEXICO (2014).  Romero and

Emilio Maurer of Puebla, MEXICO (2013), who finished 5th, both tied Lopez for Low Round honors by each carding a final round of 74.

Daniel Jaramillo of COLUMBIA (2014) finished 2 strokes ahead of Maurer in 4th place.  Meanwhile in the

Boys 11-13 division

Ten year old Martin Jaramillo of COLOMBIA (2017)  led wire-to-wire to earn his first FCWT win with rounds of 87-84.  Brady Franson of Wilmette, IL (2016), finished in 2nd place followed by Kyle Marion of Winter Park, FL (2016).

Audrey Monssoh came from behind to win the Girls division (more).
